The new “big” day has arrived: today I am back in possession of Falkor, but there is more sadness than joy…

August 10, 2022 – Today is the Day. The one in which I will return to Falkor’s possession. And it’s not an easy day. It should have been a moment of joy, of great emotion, but only this second remains. Not too positive either. It was the end of 2020 when we began to think about whether to keep Falkor or focus on a different vehicle, whether to do some “renovation” work to make our existing home more comfortable or to revolutionize everything. In the end, budget problems and uncertainties about diesel engines in the long term convinced us to keep a van that we love madly.

In March 2021, after several discussions with those who would then carry out the work, we received the estimate: about €7,000 excluding VAT. Not a few but spent to have several improvements on board that in part we would not have found even on more modern vehicles. So, we gave the green light, with the aim of having Falkor ready for the summer. Then the bad news: the diagnosis of Marilù’s disease and the need to stop, at least temporarily.

And in the meantime, time (and not only) goes away…

During those months we wanted to look to the future with confidence, and at the end of November we took Falkor to the workshop, with the idea of ​​having it back after the Christmas holidays or at the end of January at the latest. Then we slipped to February, then to March. And then April and May turned out to be a nightmare… and Falkor was no longer in our thoughts.

In late May, finally, a real go-ahead for the works, which as always involved numerous changes during the work in progress. To decide, this time, only me: the renovated house will basically serve me and Yoda.

It took another three months to reach the finalization of the project, with an account that eventually shot up and that today makes me reflect on the fact if it was really worth it. The total has reached €12,000, and now it is useless to think whether it was right or not to spend so much money. You will see the result soon. I just have to forget about it and enjoy it as much as possible…

The last few days have been difficult. I had to find a solution for the payment, because I don’t have all that money in such a complicated period! I am waiting for the approval of a loan to be peaceful and pay off my debts. In the meantime, I’m on the train to Santorso, where the last jobs will be finished in the day and then I’ll be back home, the real one: Falkor.

From March 2021 to today it has been a long, difficult, and painful journey. But from here I will leave to look for a new serenity.
