If caravans and scooters want to look like they are not, it’s a writer’s fault!

October 17, 2021 – Today I wanted to have fun. It’s Sunday and I have some free time, so why be always too serious? This morning I came across one of the unmissable articles that occasionally find a place on the la Repubblica website. I tend to think that they are part of a humorous column, because if I took them seriously, I would be “pissed” thinking about how unfair it is that I have never worked for a prestigious newspaper like that 🤣🤣🤣. Not to say that I also proposed to curate a column on recreational vehicles, but they didn’t even find the time to give me an answer!

However, when I see an article that talks about motorhomes, I don’t miss the opportunity to read it, happy that our passion goes beyond the confines of specialized magazines. It is clear from the opening image that this is a caravan, but the American manufacturer has decided to call it Ultimate Camper, where “camper” in Italian means “motorhome”.

Haste is bad counsel

The colleague, perhaps distracted or a bit hasty, however, treated her as if she were “a towable motorhome” (usually only happens when the vehicle breaks down…), forgetting to mention that this caravan will never arrive in Italy or Europe, as well as found it unnecessary to specify that it is a US product. “Last but not least”, he probably did not even write the original text, which seems to have been copied from English, pasted into Google Translate and arranged with little care, as shown in the image below in the yellow bands.

But I still would like to work at la Repubblica, so what better time than trying to do a similar operation in a different sector? I thought that the product that in the US is called electric scooters, in Italy are vehicles of a very different kind: we define “scooter” just the motorcycle with a different frame, while the small scooter without saddle is called “monopattino”. I then found a product that had that word in its name (just like in Ultimate Camper) and a company whose name is not related to that of actual scooters, just as Ultimate Toys does not recall the world of toys. The comparison is a bit forced, but I think I have found a sensible similarity.

From there, I rewrote the piece following the same philosophy as the author of la Repubblicaa handful of platitudes, a couple of blunders and as many incorrect literal translations in the Italian version. The result seems nice to me and therefore I propose it below, both as a comparative image and as a complete text. What are you saying? Couldn’t I write for the Republic too? 🤣🤣🤣

In italics my article on the American scooter:

Ultimate Camper, the retro taste in the shape of a clamshell

Levy Electric Scooter, the two-wheeler without saddle

The latest model of the house combines vintage taste and technology: this is the result

The latest model of the house combines practicality and technology: this is the result

ROME – Ultimate Toys is not a toy company. Instead, it is a company known for building luxurious conversions based on Mercedes Sprinter and has unveiled the latest model to join its range: a towable motorhome. “Ultimate Camper” is available in two styles: Woody and Classic. The former adds wood cladding panels, while the latter comes in a two-tone finish. The Ultimate Camper is about a foot wider than most traditional clamshell motorhomes and rests on 14-inch whitewall tires.

ROME – Levy Electric is not an electrical product company. Instead, it is a company known for building sustainable mobility solutions and has unveiled the latest model to join its range: an electric bareback scooter. “Levy Electric Scooter” is available in two styles: Levy and Levy Plus. The former has a 6.4Ah battery and 8.5” wheels, while the latter reaches 10.4Ah and has 10” wheels. The Levy Electric Scooter weighs a couple of kilos less than most traditional electric scooters and guarantees a range of up to 20 miles.

It cannot be said that it does not notice. Starting with some specs, the Ultimate Camper is over four and a half meters long. It has composite side walls with a welded aluminum frame, dual-panel acrylic windows, a one-piece aluminum roof surface, and Azdel interior and exterior panels. The windows open seamlessly via assisted mullions, allowing ventilation in the living space even when it is too hot.

It cannot be said that it does not notice. Starting with some specs, like colored brake cables. Its powerful 350-Watt motor allows you to climb even in the hills. The Levy has a good range, but if you need to travel longer distances, you can replace the battery, a feature that almost all other electric scooters lack. A bright displaythat is easy to read in daylight completes the basic equipment.

Other details? Vinyl flooring, a diamond-patterned backsplash, custom wood furniture and a sleek lovedeseatthat converts into a double bed. Amenities include a two-burner hob, microwave, refrigerator, wet bathtub, multi-speed roof fan, two-zone media center, and much more. Air conditioning, an electric water heater, oven, water management system, battery monitor, and power disconnect switch keep things running smoothly. It can accommodate two people, but also a party for five in the indoor dining room.

Other details? The scooter is available in three color variants: black with turquoise accents, black with red accents and blue details with silver front pillar. The controls for the Levy are spartan but effectiveccient. On the right side is a thumb throttle with a power button and a menu button. Using just these two buttons, you can set cruise control, switch between the three speed modes and turn the headlights on and off. Unlike most electric scooters, which have the battery built into the base, the Levy’s battery is located inside the oblique tube and is also removable. It can accommodate one person, but also a party for two on the outdoor platform.

Ultimate Camper prices are available upon request.
